Having started a ’special study’ in composition towards the end of 2007, False Promises was the first piece of music I composed for my portfolio for the course. The brief we were given was to compose a piece of music for two people: a woodwind player, who would play either an oboe, oboe d’amore or cor anglais; and a percussionist, who would have available a vibraphone, cymbal and bongoes. I chose to create a lyrical piece of music using the cor anglais, vibraphone and cymbal only, the result of which you can hear here.
